It has to be said that the gîtes at Les Séchoirs come ‘fully loaded’ with all you need for easy living and this means their kitchens too. For Al Fresco dining, each gîte also has a barbecue and utensils and with a great butchery department in the Carrefour Contact, 300 metres up the road, life could not be easier….but hang on….holiday time means not having to worry about cooking….
Although it is not a large town, Clairac is very lucky where dining out options are concerned….
For elegant dining, there is L’Ecuelle d’ Or with its relaxing ambience and well presented meals in its lovely dining room which is situated in an old house in the heart of the village.
Clairac Plage (river beach) is always popular on a good day and its restaurant and coffee shop is open all day for drinks, snacks and a range of simple yet tasty dishes that can be enjoyed overlooking the beach and of course the river Lot. At the weekends there is live music in the evenings too.
A really hidden gem also in the centre of the village is La Crêperie de l’Eglise, which is open during the summer months. The restaurant is small and decoratively fascinating inside; outside there is a leafy courtyard. Madame Giselle runs the restaurant with her daughter and is definitely master of the crêpes! There is a small menu with both sweet and savoury options as well as a selection of salads. The crêpes are delicious, generously filled and reasonably priced. There is a selection of wines to accompany and some really good ciders too as well as the usual soft drinks.
Just 300 metres from Les Séchoirs ( diagonally opposite Carrefour) is a small but very popular Traiteur (Take Away meals) called La Gousse d’Ail which offers a great range of takeaway meals from really local snails, to delicious salmon in white wine and universally popular pizzas; here is the menu from August 2017; please call to place an order!
With so many wonderful places to try on the doorstep it is a shame to stay in cooking!!….
